Australia Day Celebrations & Events

Local heroes, Aussie icons and our way of life

Come and celebrate what’s great about the City of Ryde at our Australia Day celebrations on Tuesday 26 January 2016. It will be a day of ceremony, tradition and family fun.

Ryde Mayor Clr Jerome Laxale said Ryde offers unique Australia Day celebrations. “You don’t have to travel far to enjoy great entertainment and spectacular fireworks. I encourage everyone to bring their families and friends to enjoy an unforgettable Australia Day right here in Ryde,” he said.

The day starts with a civic ceremony and an address from Ryde’s Australia Day Ambassador, Erik Horrie, and the naming of our Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year.

Then the party kicks off at 5 o’clock at North Ryde Common with the Australia Day family concert this year offering a double dose of classic Aussie rock featuring the INXS tribute band KICK and the Chisel-Barnes Show Last Stand.

At 9.00pm, tonnes of pyrotechnics will ignite the skies as the Xtreme Fireworks Spectacular brings the day to a climax.

Join us on Australia Day 2016 to:

  • Honour our most admired citizens and welcome new ones at a special civic ceremony
  • Hear about what makes Australia great from Australia Day Ambassador Erik Horrie
  • Enjoy a traditional Aussie morning tea or sausage sizzle
  • Rock on at West Ryde Common with tribute bands Last Stand and KICK
  • Be amazed as the night sky lights up with a spectacular fireworks display.
