Our feature album this week is from Joy Yates with her latest record ‘Songs From Lady Day’.
Joy Yates is a singer and performance teacher from New Zealand. Over the course of five decades, she has been highly active in the jazz music scene in both New Zealand and around the world. As an artist, Joy has shared stage and studio time with artists from the likes of Neil Sedaka, Van Morrison, Monty Python, Cliff Richard and a whole range more.
Her latest studio record ‘Songs From Lady Day’ showcases her immense talent as a musician. Taking the listener on a smooth and soulful journey through effortless jazz orchestration and vocals, the record feels both alive and powerful. Songs range from fast-tempo dance pieces like What A Little Moonlight Can Do, to easy going down-tempo grooves like Easy Living.
