Robbie will explore how the Mersey sound all started in Liverpool, England in the late 1950s and reached it’s zenith in the mid 60s. Did you know that the Mersey Beat was named after Liverpool’s famed river, Mersey?
Many, many bands formed and developed the unique Mersey Sound during the late 50s, driven by the rock ’n rock and black music sounds coming to Liverpool via the docks and courtesy of British and American sailors bringing records back from the USA. The Beatles led the way, eventually conquering the world, but in the early days bands such as The Searchers, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, The Swinging Blue Jeans and The Merseys and many others were just as important. Join Robbie on POP ROCK! as he features some of the best songs of that era. Tune in 6-5 pm
