Over the next two weeks the Saint of RETROPOPIC RADIO talks with Scottish bassist Derek Forbes about his memories of playing with Simple Minds.

This week on Retropopic Radio (Friday 20th November 9 pm to 10 pm) covers the time when the band’s popularity began to rise up to and including perhaps their mid 80s commercial, as well as critical, peak. Next week’s edition (Friday 27th November 9 pm to 10 pm) focuses on Derek’s time playing music away from Simple Minds.

How did he get to join Propaganda?
Playing with musicians that include Kirk Brandon from Spear of Destiny, Mike Peters of The Alarm and Kirsty MacColl, amongst others, what makes so many musicians want to work with him? What are his memories of singing backing vocals with Bowie & Jim Kerr on an Iggy Pop track?

Why was he constantly hungry reconvening with Jim and Charlie on Simple Minds album ‘Neapolis’?
How did he get together with Marc Almond collaborator Anni Hogan in Zanti? What award did he celebrate receiving on his 60th birthday?
