Blues Album of the Month – Rick Estrin And The Nightcats

Blues Album of the Month as chosen by our resident blues-hound Colin Briscoe of Feel Good Revival is Rick Estrin and The Nightcats – Groovin’ in Greaseland

Rick Estrin and The Nightcats need no introduction to Australian audiences far and wide, from their early tours here with Little Charlie a decade or more back, to outstanding concerts at our major festivals, notably at the Great Southern Blues & Rockabilly Festivals in recent years and regularly touring on a global scale, the band’s new Alligator label release definitely adds yet another feast of tremendous rhythm and blues that will get you jumping out of your seats.

With a fine production by their powerful lead guitarist, Kid Andersen, Rick Estrin (co-produced and written 11 of 13 songs, with one co-written with Kid) on lead vocals and the dynamic master of the harp, Lorenzo Farrell, keyboard wizard on piano, organ & synthesizer, a Nightcat since 2003, Alex Pettersen on drums/percussion, although a relative newcomer since 2016, Alex has a phenomenal history having played with notable musicians, including Junior Watson, Rick Holmstrom, Mitch Kashmar, Kid Ramos, James Harman and Louisiana Red.

One asks, how can you follow-up studio albums like Twisted (2009), One Wrong Turn (2012) and the heralded You Asked For It…Live (2014) …well you keep with the same formula, hitting new heights that they do always and keeping it fun with lots of soul and energy.

Rick Estrin & The NightcatsGroovin’ In Greaseland set for release on August 18th, 2017 through Alligator Records and distributed via Only Blues Music in Australia.
